COMPLIANCE REPORT FOR 2006-2007

 

 

Curricular Aspects

  1. Add-on Courses of Mumbai University were started in 2005-2006 at Certificate level. In 2006-2007, along with continuation of these certificate courses for new batches, Diploma courses were started for students who had completed certificate course in respective stream. Accordingly,
    1. Certificate course in Environment Auditing was conducted in which 30 students were enrolled and 27 students completed the course successfully. For Diploma course 16 students were enrolled and 15 students completed the course successfully.
    2. Certificate course in Accounts for Co-operative Societies and Trust was conducted in which 25 students were enrolled and 23 students completed the course successfully. For Diploma course, 20 students were enrolled and 20 students completed the course successfully. Certificates to those who had completed the Certificate course were distributed in a special function.
    3. Foundation course in Yoga was conducted for which 15 students were enrolled and they completed the course successfully.
  2. Commerce Department also conducted other courses like (a) One-year Diploma Course in Export-Import management (b) One-year Diploma course in Logistic Management (c) Course in C. A. P. E. I and P. E. II, of the institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
  3. As per planning for 2006-07, B. Sc. (Information Technology) Course of Mumbai University was started in July 2006. 60 students were enrolled for this course.
  4. Our college is a recognized center for enrollment of students for Distance Education for B. A. / B. Com. / M. Com. We also conduct lectures for these students. This year the number of students enrolled was 700.
  5. Course for Guidance o Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MOPSC) Examinations conducted by Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik was started and conducted successfully through Virtual Learning Center (VLC) facility. 25 students enrolled for the course.
  6. Experts’ Lecture Series was organized by Arts department, Commerce department, Chemistry department, Physics department and Mathematics department for Final Year students of the B. Com and B. Sc. students of respective subjects.
  7. As many as 13 Guest lectures were arranged by Commerce Department on various topics like ‘Career in Insurance’, Opportunities in Retail and Logistic Management’, Interview Techniques and Personality Development’, ‘Basics of Stock Market and Investment Strategies’, ‘Automobile Dealership Management’, Career in Retail Management’, ‘Overseas Job Opportunities’ and ‘Guidance for MBA entrance examinations’ etc.
  8. Talent batch and Progressive batch were formed in B. A., B. Com. and B. Sc. classes for the final year students. Talent batch was for students who were expected to get higher scores in the University examination and Progressive Batch was made for those who were lagging behind in studies. Students from both these batches were given extra attention and coaching to improve their performance. Extra tests and solving of question papers was arranged for these talent batch and progressive batch.

Research and Academic Achievements of Faculty

1.      Prof. P. G. Pawar of Commerce Department submitted Ph. D. dissertation in Shivaji University on ‘Human Resource Management of Engineering Industry in Satara District’. He was on Faculty Improvement Programme of U. G. C.

2.      Prof. R. R. Kumbhar of Chemistry Department submitted his Ph. D. dissertation in Shivaji University. He was on Faculty Improvement Programme of U. G. C.

3.      Prof. Pratima Shukla has completed M. Phil. in Commerce in Mumbai University. The topic of her dissertation was ‘A Study on Bad Experiences of Retail Investors in Indian Stock Market’.

4.      Prof. K. U. Khan completed M. B. A. in Marketing from Yashwanrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik.

5.      Prof. B. H. Kakkar completed P.G. D. F. M. from Mumbai University.

6.      Prof. Abha Singh passed the 1st Group of C. A. P. E. - II Examination.

 

Infrastructure Development and Learning Resources

1.      Work for Two well-equipped laboratories with working tables for 60 students was completed and 60 computers, 5 printers were purchased. Regular B. Sc. in Information Technology course was started as per planning in these laboratories.  

2.      Laboratory for Post-Graduate Diploma in Laboratory Technology (PGDMLT) has been separately developed and the practical for that course were started in the new laboratory.

3.      Renovation of old DMLT laboratory has been done to make it suitable for conducting M. Sc. (Microbiology) practical and it has been used accordingly from 2006-2007. Work for development of Research Laboratory for Microbiology is started as planned last year.

4.      Restructuring of environmental laboratory and providing facility of separate laboratory for students registered for M. Sc. by research in chemistry was completed as per planning done last year.

5.      Since the building of the college is 25 years old, some repairs with respect to water-proofing and new electrification were necessary. This work was undertaken as per plan for four classrooms in 2006-2007.

6.      Garden in our college is well maintained and consecutively for last three years we are getting prize for ‘Best Garden’ in the category of Institutions from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

7.      Application was made to U.G.C. for funding for construction of Women’s Hostel and we have received a sanction letter for Rs. 2 crores for Women’s Hostel construction. The work is expected to start in 2007-2008.

 

Seminars / Workshops / Refresher Courses Organized in College

1.      Workshop was organized on “First Aid o the injured” on 9th February 2007 for students of Post-Graduate Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (PGDMLT) in our college.

2.      An Exhibition was organized on Karmaveer Jeevan Darshan on behalf of Sanstha to create awareness in society about the legendary work done by Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil (Founder) of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara.

3.      Workshop was organized on 23rd April 2007 for Junior College Teachers for Revised Syllabus at XIIth Standard. There were total 150 participants from various nearby colleges for this workshop.

 

Publications

1.      Prof. H. V. Jadhav wrote a book on “Global Warming and Environment Protection Laws” which was published by Himalaya Publishing House, Mumbai.

2.      Prof. S. N. Jogdand wrote a book on “Biopharmaceuticals” which was published by Himalaya Publishing House, Mumbai in October 2006.

3.      Prof. S. N. Jogdand wrote a book on “Industrial Biotechnology” which was published by Himalaya Publishing House, Mumbai in October 2006.

4.      Prof. P. R. Gune’s research paper on ‘Studies on Antibacterial Activities of Neem Leaves extract is published in J. Microbial World Vol. 9(1), 2007.

5.      Prof. R. R. Kumbhar published a research paper on “Thermodynamic Studies in 18 Crown-6 Complexes with Alkaline Earth Metals at 298.15 K in J. Solution Chemistry Jan. 2007.

6.      Prof. R. R. Kumbhar published a research paper on “A Study in Phase Equilibria for ternary aqueous sustem containing etOH and Na2SO4 at Ambient temperature and pressure” in Fluid Phase Equilibria.

 

Resource Person / Paper Presentation / Expert Lectures by Faculty

1.      Principal Dr. Arvind Burungale presented a research paper “Synthesis of New Benzopyrano [4, 3 – d]-2- toluene Sulphanamide Pyridine in 11th International Conference on Advances I Drug Discovery Research” organized jointly by Indian Society of Chemist & Biologist and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada  University, Aurangabad held on 24-26 Feb. 2007.

2.      Prof. H. V. Jadhav went as a resource person on 24th April 2007 for Junior College Teachers at Mithibai College, Vileparle, Mumbai.

3.      Prof. P. R. Gune functioned as Panel Judge for Competition on ‘Biodiversity’ by National Children Scientists Congress (NCSC – 2006.

4.      Prof. S. N. Jogdand presented a paper on topic ‘Scientist Entreprenerur and University Spin-offs’ in a National Seminar on Industry-University Synergy at Vaze-Kelkar College, Mulund, Mumbai on 25th Nov. 2006.

5.      Prof. S. N. Jogdand as resource person in UGC sponsored Refresher Course in Life Sciences delivered a lecture on “Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences’ at Birla Colleg, Kalyan on 13th Nov. 2006.

6.      Prof. S. N. Jogdand went as a Guest lecturer in Biotechnology at – CKT College, Panvel, SIES College, Mumbai, Vivekanand College, Chembur, Tilak College, Vashi, A.S.C. College, Panvel and Birla College, Kalyan.

7.      Prof. B. S. Chiprikar was a resource person for One-Day Workshop for Junior College Teachers on revised syllabus of XIIth Standard in Mathematics organized at Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College, Vashi, Navi Mumbai

8.      Dr. V. B. Pujari attended National Seminar on “New Horizons in Physics” at Y. C. College, Satara on 20-21 January 2007 and presented a paper.

9.      Dr. V. B. Pujari acted as an examiner for science exhibition at Rajiv Gandhi College, Navi Mumbai organized by Vidnyan Parishad, Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

10. Prof. D. G. Manolkar went as an expert lecturer at T. Y. B. A. for Advanced Economic Theory- IV.

11. Dr. N. B. Kadam Patil was a resource person for the topic “Adsorption Spectroscopy” in the workshop organized by Rajiv Gandhi College for T. Y. B. Sc. students.

12.  Dr. N. B. Kadam Patil was a resource person at workshop organized by K. M. C. College, Khopoli.

13. Dr. D. B. Thakare went as expert lecturer to T. Y. B. Sc for the topic of Microbial Biochemistry at C. K. T. College, Panvel.

14.  Prof. D. M. Naigude worked as a resource person in Mathematics on 23rd April 2007 for One Day Workshop for Junior College Teachers (on Revised Syllabus of XIIth Science) held in K. B. P. College, Vashi

15. Prof. R. R. Kumbhar worked as a resource person in Shivaji University organized workshop on “Research Methodology” at Jayasingpur (Kolhapur).

16. Prof. R. R. Kumbhar presented a paper in National Conference of Indian Thermodynamics Society at Surat (Gujrat) in Nov. 2006.

17. Prof. L. V. Gavli presented a research paper on “Synthesis and Characterization of the Complexes of Some Transition metals – “ in International Conference held in Mumbai University on 3rd to 25th Jan. 2007.

18. Prof. Rajeshree Ghorpade was a resource person and delivered a talk on “Methods for Water Analysis” at Maharashra Pollution Control Board in Navi Mumbai.

  3. Dr. D. B. Thakare worked as a subject expert on the selection committee for career advancement at Vivekanand College, Chembur, Mumbai.

  1. Prof. V. A. Pawar attended the Refresher Course in “Electronics and Instrumentation” at Western Regional Instrumentation Center at Mumbai University from 26/12/2005 to 16/01/2007.
  2. Prof. R. J. Solomon attended a refresher course in “Educational Technology and Evaluation Techniques” in April 2006 at Bharatiyar University, Coimbtore.
  3. Prof. B. P. Pawar attended a refresher course conducted by U.G.C. Academic Staff College, Mumbai University, from 11th Dec. 2006 to 30th Dec. 2006.

 

Extracurricular Activities and Students’ Achievements

1.      Miss Priya Maruti Patil of F. Y. B. Com. showed remarkable performance in running and cross-country competition. She got Ist prize in 800 meters Running Competition and IInd prize in 1500 meters Running Competition held by Mumbai University. She got VIth position in Cross-Country competition. Priya Patil represented Mumbai University at National level Running Competition which was held in Andhra Pradesh and got IInd prize in the same.

2.      Mr. Vikas Arjun Gole of T. Y. B. Sc. participated in Karate Competition organized by Mumbai University an he go IIIrd prize in this competition.

3.      Mr. Vijay Damodar Shinde of S. Y. B. A. was selected in cricket team of Bank of Maharashtra.

4.      Mr. Hitesh Agrawal of S. Y. B. M. S. won first prize of Marketing Excellence in Academics by Samsika Marketing Co. Ltd.

5.      Sourabh S. Chinchpure (S. Y. B. M. S.) and Mr. Ragavendra Subnis (S. Y. B. M. S.) won First prize of Rs. 3000/- in ‘Share-E-Bazar’ contest organized by Swami Vivekanand College, Chembur.

6.      Mukesh Bhoir (T. Y. B. M. S.) and Nishikant Kadam (S. Y. B. M. S.) won First prize in ‘Share-E-Bazar’ contest organized by ICLES’ College, Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

7.      Students of our college participated in 12 different youth festivals organized by renowned colleges and organizations in Mumbai. This includes Youth Fest by Mumbai University, Indian National Theatre, Sakal Karandak, Mood Indigo by IIT Mumbai, Ruturang of Potdar College, Visions of SIES College, SIESONS of SIES College Nerul etc.  

 

Extension Activities

1.      Journalist Day was celebrated on 6th Jan. 2007 in which 55 local reporters of various Newspapers, and Cable TV channels were felicitated to express gratitude towards the contribution they make towards creating of awareness in the society on various issues of social interest. Hon. Shri Nitin Kelkar (Famous Television Journalist) was present as Chief Guest. He guided new breed of journalist on important values to be taken care of in journalism.

2.      This year we also started celebrating Science Day on 28th Feb. On the function held on 28th Feb. 2007, Hon. Padmashree Dr. J. P. Mittal delivered a talk on ‘Enrichment in Science’.

3.      This year we also started celebrating International Women’s Day on 8th March. This year on 8th March 2007, Hon. Sou Meenatai Jagdhane (Member, General Body, Rayat Shikshan Sanstha) was present as chief guest. Rag-picker women’s melawa was held on this day. First time women from such socially deprived class were experiencing the importance given to women and dignity of their work.

4.      Gramin Swachhata Abhiyan and Gramin Mahila Melawa were held at Wakadi near Panvel. Gram Swachhta Abhiyan was also organized at Vashi gaon. Both these activities were carried out by N. S. S.

5.      N. S. S. as usual carried out many activities throughout the year and it included Pulse Polio camp, slide show on leprosy, street play on AIDS, tree plantation, anti-dowry speech etc. 10 days residential camp at Shantiwan, at Wakadi near Panvel. Repair of road, construction of small bandhara etc were carried out as part of shramdan during this camp.

6.       Balwadi School was started for children of slum dwellers (rag pickers) near Vashi Railway Station, Navi Mumbai. On 14th November, ‘Children Day’, toys were distributed to children in this slum area balwadi.

7.      Balwadi is also run in Amrai Nagar, Sector 8, Nerul (adopted by college) for slum children. 32 children enrolled their names in this balwadi school. Mayor of Navi Mumbai Hon. Manisha Bhoir and Jyoti Mhapsekar of Stree Mukti Sanghatana were present on the occasion of inauguration.

8.      Study classes are conducted in the area of Indira Nagar (adopted by college) for primary section. The members of Community Extension Services: Mehul Jadhav, Manisha Bandgar did the survey of the area. They also conduct classes for children in the evening. Children from 1st to 4th enrolled their names for these study classes.

9.      Yuvati Melawa was organized as per each year’s practice in our college. Competitions of salad decoration, flower arrangement, ‘best from waste’ were organized. Lecture on Yoga and Nutrition was organized on the occasion. Ten outstanding women from various fields like education, social service, science etc. were felicitated as per the practice.

10. Mahila Melawa was organized on 8th March 2007 on International Women Day. The Rag pickers Mahilas were present in large number. Hon. Ms. Meenatai jagdhane (Member of General Bodyof Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara) was the Chief Guest. Miss Vaishali Shinde a social activist also spoke on the occasion.

11. Community Outreach Programmes were conducted by Association of students (Introspection) of our college for Psycho-social development. These students joined the mentally retarded children at ‘Ahray’ an organization for Rehabilitation of Mentally Retarded Children at Sector 8, Sanpada. Introspection members conducted variety programmes like shor play, story telling, mimicry and some games for children.

12. Violence Prevention Exhibition was organized on Jan. 27, 2007 with a view to sensitize Navi Mumbai public on growing violence in the city and the need for its prevention. Posters, Models, Plays and video films formed the part of exhibition presentation. During the programme a documentary film titled “Other side of Mumbai” was released. The documentary film was planned and produced by members of Introspection.

All these activities help to inculcate values of Nationality, Humanity, Equality, and Respect to women amongst the students.

 

Healthy Practices

 

1. Legal Literacy Programme

As per the planning done last year, One-day Legal Literacy Workshop was organized by Women Forum of college in collaboration with Yashwanrao Chavan Pratishthan Legal Aid Forum on 8th August 2006. Legal advise was given by advocates of Pratishthan. It was inaugurated by High Court Judge Hon. Deshpande. 92 students participated in the workshop which helped to increase awareness in students about legal aspects.

2. Campus Interview and Placement 

Every year some students get jobs in the offices of some employers who approach for recruitment purpose. This year more concerted efforts were made through a systematic placement cell which took care of campus interviews and placement services. The result was so good that as many as 204 students got placement in various companies.

Events

Karmaveer Jeevan Darshan Exhibition of pictures, photos, articles, books, publications related to life of Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil ‘Founder’ of our Rayat Shikshan Sanstha was held on 6,7,8 Feb. 2007, in college auditorium in coordination with Karmaveer Vidya Prabodhini, Satara. It was open to public, and students from all nearby schools also were invited to visit it. Around 1200 students from various schools visited the exhibition. The idea of exhibition was to create awareness about legendary work done by social reformer Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil in the field of education through establishment of schools, colleges, hostels for children of all communities.

 

Notable Developments

Karmaveer Research Institute – Initiative was taken by our college (Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College) for establishment of Research Institute to carry on research activities in Socio-Economic Field, Research & Courses in Biotechnology & Management Courses, Courses of Foreign universities

 

Notable Achievements

Hon. Dr. N. D. Patil Chairman of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha and Chairman of Local Managing Committee of Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College was honoured with “Maharshi Vitthal Ramji Shinde Award” for his contribution to social and educational field, at the hands of Hon. Krantiveer Nagnath Anna Naikawadi.
