1. INCEPTION OF THE DEPARTMENT
Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College, Vashi, Navi Mumbai has started B. Sc. Information Technology course with 59 students from academic year 2006-07. The following table show how the strength of the students went on increasing in a small span of four years.

Besides the curriculum, various programmes and activities like Group Discussion, Seminars, Question – answer sessions, Guest lectures, will be arranged throughout the year.
2. FRESHER’S WELCOME FUNCTION
Students of S.Y.and T.Y. Information Technology Classes arrange the welcome function for the new comers in the department at the beginning of each academic year, which is started from the academic year 2008-09. It was celebrated on Aug 31st 2008. We invited Mrs. Suman Keluskar as the chief guest. She delivered a lecture on soft skills. Mr. K. T. Rao from hp business machines and Mrs. Netra Shirke from Drushti TV Channel were also invited for the same function.
During the academic year 2009-10, we invited a well known orator Mr. Wilson Pinto from Computers Society of India (CSI), Mumbai Chapter as the chief guest for this function. He delivered a motivating speech to students of I T and Computer Science. He guided our students on careers in I T and computers in a very simple and lucid language.
3. An IT FEST – ZEAL
An IT Fest – Zeal was started from the academic year 2007-08. The basic aim of organizing this fest is to provide the platform for the students to explore their talent. Besides the technical seminars, many IT events and games are also organized in this festival. Students from various colleges from Mumbai and its Suburbans, Thane and Navi Mumbai are participating in these events. The prizes will be distributed to the winners and runners of each and individual events and games in this festival. For the first time, it was organized on Jan 28th – 29th, 2008 and we invited Mr. Rajiv Vaishnav, Regional Director, and NASSCOM as the chief guest for this function. He was also accompanied by Mr. Paul Janto from TCS Ltd.
During the academic year 2008-09, it was organized on Dec 11-12, 2008. Mr. Mohiniraj B. Sutavani from Patni Computers was invited as the chief guest for this festival. He was also accompanied by Mr. Ravi Marva Manager of Shopper’s stop.
During the academic year 2009-10, it was organized on Jan 20-21, 2010. Mr. Dhirender Nirwani, IBM Academic Initiative Team was invited as the chief guest for this festival. He was also accompanied by Rtn. Rakesh Bansal, President, Rotary Club, Navi Mumbai.
4. INDUSTRIAL VISIT
Industrial visit of S. Y. B. Sc. I. T. class is being arranged every year. It was started from the academic year 2007-08 and for the first time it was scheduled from 15th – 19th Jan 2008 to Bangalore and Mysore. Our students visited many software companies like Microsoft, IBM, ISRO and historical monuments like Tipu Sultan’s Palace, Birla Temple, Chamundeshwari Tample, Brindavan garden etc. in this visit.
During the academic year 2008-09, it was arranged from 13th – 17th Dec. 2008 to Hyderabad and our students visited many software companies like Dept. of I.T. Osmania University , IIC technology Pvt. Ltd., Advance Software Technology, CMC Ltd., Infotech Enterprises and historical monuments like Golconda Fort for the most fascinating sound and light show , Snow City – the land of never ending fun in the snow, starlit pleasure boat cruise for an hour with sophisticated music system for dancing – party friends, world’s tallest monolithic statue of Buddha and Ramoji Film City.
During the academic year 2009-10, it is planned from 23rd – 27th .Feb. 2010 to Bangalore and Mysore. Our dept. has planned to visit many software companies like Infosys, Wipro, D-Link, LG Soft., CISCO etc. in addition to the historical monuments in this visit.

6. Lectures on Various Topics
1. A Lecture cum guidance on T.Y. Projects was arranged on 12th Feb. 2009. Mr. Abhijeet Kale from Bandodkar College, Thane was the resource person. He motivated and guided our students as far as the selection of the projects, data collection and presentation etc.
2. A Lecture on C # (read as C - Sharp): an introduction was organized on 19th March 2009. Mrs. Bageshree Kulkarni from Dept. of Information Technology of L.T. College, Koperkhairne was the resource person. She delivered quite informative and interesting lecture which was really benefited our students.
7. FUTURE PLAN
Proposal to start M. Sc. I.T. post graduate course has been sent to Mumbai University and will be started from the next academic year 2010-2011. Subsequently we have planned to develop separate computer laboratories with all facilities for M. Sc. I.T. course. The current activities of the department like Industrial Tour, IT festival ‘ZEAL’, campus interviews for placement of the students etc will be continued in future also. In addition to this we have planned to organize different workshops for the overall development of the students. Moreover we also planned to organize seminars and conferences at the appropriate levels as and when required. We have also planned to strengthen our alumina. Faculty members have planned to improve their educational qualification like M. Phil., Ph. D. and to prepare and appear for NET / SET examinations. As the outcome of research activity, research papers, articles etc. will be communicated in the appropriate journals at national and international levels.
