BRIEF HISTORY
Department of Mathematics is functional since the inception of the college. The very idea of starting Mathematics subject in 1979 was to create confidence by equipping all the students with knowledge of Mathematics. It is related to various branches of science, Technology, Agriculture, Industry, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science etc.
From 1979 to 1989 the strength of students was almost stable & two faculty members were working in this department. From 1989 there was a gradual increase in the number of students due to introduction of Computer subject for T.Y.B.Com. class and increase in the no. of divisions of F.Y.B.Com. class, hence the number of faculty members increased upto 06.
Prof. C.M. Langote was the first head of the department who was also working as “Member of Board of Studies of Mathematics, University of Mumbai ”. He was member of Faculty of Science, Commerce and Arts, University of Mumbai. He retired on 31.12.2009. Prof. D.N. Kolhe is working as the head of the department since 01.01.2010.
In June 2005, T.Y.B.Sc. Mathematics was started due to heavy demand of students. K.B.P. College was the only college in Navi Mumbai in 2005 that offered Mathematics subject and hence the no. of faculty members increased up to 08.
Expansion of the laboratory was done in 2004 in order to accommodate T.Y.B.Sc.(Mathematics) batch. In June 2008, S.Y.B.Com. Computer was started and hence renovation of laboratory was carried out again as required for T.Y.B.Sc.(Maths), T.Y.B.Com. & S.Y.B.Com. (Computer) as per revised syllabus.
Now we have separate laboratory for
i) T.Y.B.Com. & S.Y.B.Com. (Computer)
ii) T.Y.B.Sc. (Mathematics)

Features of the Department
1) Two days National Conference on “FUZZY LOGIC & ITS APPLICATIONS IN INDUSTRY“ ( NC-FLAI-09 ) was jointly organized by the Department of Mathematics and Bombay Mathematical Colloquium, on January, 10th and 11th, 2009.
2) One day workshop in Mathematics, for revised syllabus of S.Y.B.Sc. Paper I was organized by the Department of Mathematics on July, 4th, 2009.
Future Plan of the Department for the next five years (2009-2010 TO 2013-2014)
- To take up minor research projects.
- To prepare students for NET/SLET and other competitive examinations.
- To organize National Conference on Industrial applications of Graph Theory.
- To organize work-shop on revised syllabus of T.Y.B.Sc.
